Dark circles around the eyes could be for a variety of reasons. We will discuss why you may have them, how you can prevent them from happening and also how you could treat it naturally.
Some reasons you could have dark circles
Genetics
The skin around the eye area is thinner than the rest of the body. However, some individuals have more translucent skin, making them more susceptible to dark under eye circles. How can you prevent it? Unfortunately with genetic dark circles you cannot do anything to prevent it from happening. How can you treat it? You can try to use products or methods to reduce the appearance of dark eye circles, but they may not be able to remove them entirely or permanently. Check out the AgePure Eye treatments below.
Aging
As you age, your body produces less collagen. Collagen is crucial to maintaining optimum skin health. Dwindling levels of collagen lead to sagging skin and darkening around the eye area. In addition, facial volume loss associated with aging (usually due to fat loss) can lead to hollowed tear troughs and an illusion of dark circles. How can you prevent it? One of the best ways you can prevent dark eyelids is to take care of your skin before you have any issues. This can range from sun protection by the way of eye gear and hats when you're outside, to wearing sunscreen every day. Make sure that your sunglasses and sunscreen block both UVA and UVB light How can you treat it? To hydrate and heal use rich and concentrated natural eye creams with butters and essential oils, and other active ingredients, day and night. Use an eye mask to lighten and brighten the eyelids. Check out the AgePure Eye treatments below.
Allergies
Allergic shiners occur when congestion in your sinuses leads to congestion in the small veins under your eyes. The blood pools under your eyes and these swollen veins dilate and darken, creating dark circles and puffiness. How can you prevent it? Having a healthy gut and being pro active in your health care could help prevent allergies. How can you treat it? Best to visit your health care practitioner.
Unprotected sun exposure
The skin underneath the eyes can become darkened from prolonged, unprotected sun exposure. How can you prevent it? Always use a natural sunblock regardless of your age. A natural (or physical sunblock) has a natural ingredient like zinc oxide which prevents UVA & UVB sun rays. How can you treat it? Ensure you always use a natural sunblock, like in the Liquorice Eye Day.
Stress, Fatigue & Lack of Sleep
When you're stressed more blood is directed to your main organs leaving your face looking drained and pale. This makes dark circles appear more noticeable. Stress can also cause the fragile capillaries around the eyes to break or leak blood. How can you prevent it? Choose to lead a life where you have healthy ways to manage your stress, always get 7 to 8 hours of good quality sleep and rest before you get fatigued. How can you treat it? Deal with the stress using guided meditation or other methods. Schedule bedtime and keep away cell phones and switch off the tv. Have a calming bedtime routine so you get good quality sleep.
Vitamin Deficiencies
Vitamin deficiencies, including vitamin B12, E, K, D, and iron have been associated with dark circles. How can you prevent it? Have your blood tested regularly to make sure you are have good levels of the important vitamins. How can you treat it? Have your vitamin levels checked and top up on supplements like Iron, Vitamin A, B Vitamins, Vinamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Omega 3 and Calcium which are good for healthy eye area health.
Dehydration
Dehydration is a common cause of dark circles under your eyes. When your body is not receiving the proper amount of water, the skin beneath your eyes begins to look dull and your eyes look sunken. How can you prevent it? Stay hydrated and drink at least eight glasses of water a day. How can you treat it? Drink water or make a rehydrate solution at home and drink in small sips till rehydrated. In one Litre of clean drinking or boiled water and then cooled - 5 cupfuls (each cup about 200 ml.) mix Six (6) level teaspoons of Sugar and Half (1/2) level teaspoon of Salt.
Makeup & Makeup Remover
Mascara, dark eye pencil, eye liner or dark eye shadow can sometimes leak into the bottom eye lid making it appear dark. Also, harsh cleansers and makeup removers can damage the delicate ye area. How can you prevent it? Always use an oil based makeup remover that moisturizes and does not damage. How can you treat it? If your eyes are dark try to go without eye makeup for a few days to allow it to heal. Use an eye mask and eye creams to help the area heal.
