Clueless and Naïve
Like a lot of other women, I have struggled with skin issues and have been down the expensive skincare route and fallen prey to deceitful marketing in the skincare industry. It is unfortunate, but like others, I also believed that the more I paid for a skincare product the better the results would be. Many of the brands play on our fears and insecurities with the promise of amazing results with some revolutionary new ingredient. Most times we are so clueless and naïve in this respect that we trust that this is the cure and we justify the cost even though we cannot understand how one cream can perform a miracle.
Research and Experimenting
I began experimenting and creating my own natural skin care products to deal with my pigmentation in 2015. I started doing this as I was frustrated with having tried all the best products on the market, spending a fortune for 12 years and with absolutely no results. I researched and found the most effective butters, creams, essential oils and other natural ingredients that are so pure that there were no side effects. Ingredients like coffee, tumeric, shea butter, aloe vera gel, avocado oil, grapeseed oil, rosehipseed oil, to name a few. I found blends that worked together and created some beautiful products and most importantly a skincare routine that included a home facial. Within 8 months my pigmentation was gone and my skin never felt more amazing and healthy.
Be Careful
What I discovered is that with natural skincare you actually feed your skin with rich highly concentrated products that not only benefit you short term but that helps long term to prevent early signs of ageing and heals damage caused by the sun and other elements. But be very careful as some products claim to be natural but have harmful ingredients like hydroquinone, etc that may give you short term results but the damage long term could be irreversible.
Why so Expensive?
What I could not understand is the cost of products on the market. I purchase the highest quality natural ingredients, and even with this I keep the profit margin to a minimum so that as many people as possible can benefit from healed and amazing skin. Most people fall prey to the promise that the one ingredient they do not understand or have heard of before will be that miracle cure. I have learnt that the most important thing you can do to improve your skin is to choose natural and be consistent with your routine day, night and home facials. These simple strategies will provide you with the best and fastest results for your best skin over time.
Choose Wisely
Most of the skincare ranges that have the best advertising etc. are generally brands from overseas. Think about the cost to import and the shelf life of these products. Most of these products are bulked with preservatives and other ingredients whereas natural, local products are highly concentrated with active ingredients for maximum efficacy. There are some imported products that are economical and have been flooding the South African marketplace. Please be careful, like I said earlier, as I have seen many clients use these with immediate results but a few weeks or months down the line their skin begins to thin out and some experienced burns with irreversible damage. Also, choose a supplier and brand you can trust.
Choose Natural and Local whenever you can.
